ABOUT PLANE AND SPACE
CEART (Fuenlabrada, Spain)
Oct 21 – Nov 14, 2010
While living in London (2007-2009), Magán had the opportunity to have a solo exhibition at the Tomás y Valiente Art Centre (CEART). Sculptures and photographs made between Madrid and London were displayed in what was a significant event in the early stages of his career.
The six displayed sculptures are significant pieces in his oeuvre. In some, the frame is used to support glass plates, while in others the two components are perfectly balanced within a complex structure. There is remarkable attention to the different sculptural formats and supports: hanging, freestanding, on a pedestal or on the wall.
The exhibition also includes ‘Scraps’, his first photographic series to be exhibited, an interesting interplay between sculptural freedom and photographic experimentation. The images are of ephemeral works assembled from initially discarded scraps found around the workshop.
