THE WEIGHT OF COLOR
Galería Cayón (Madrid, Spain)
Nov 25, 2017 Jan 20, 2018

David Magán’s third exhibition at Galería Cayón is as ambitious as it is complex. In it he presents three installations, seven reliefs –three large-format–, two light works and a sculpture. All this distributed in three rooms.

“Magán’s art must be seen not only as an artistic activity, but also as a meticulous scientific endeavour, in which each work is the result of an intense research process. The fruit of his labour is a body of work that expresses the fusion of architecture, painting and sculpture.”

“Magán’s works go beyond traditional static sculpture, which is usually limited and unchanging. Instead, his works reveal an infinite chromatic and luminous potential that goes far beyond pure materiality. He wants the pieces to be encountered as geometric modules in constant flux, transforming the space in response to the impact of light and thus changing the position and movement of the viewer. In this way he demonstrates the interdependence of a work of art, a body and space.”

“A sculpture is transformed into an event; colour becomes an evolving circumstance, an experience linked to each movement the observer makes, while time contracts and expands, beyond boundaries, relentlessly at our step.”
